Everyone has a sexual orientation and gender identity

LGBTQIA+ identities and relationships are honoured at Hands to Heart Therapy and I acknowledge the impact of historical and ongoing discrimination and systemic oppression. I aim to work towards creating a space that is affirming, inclusive and open to uniqueness. \

WELCOME

What kinds of issues do LGBTQ+ folks seek therapy for?

LGBTQ+ Youth Issues: Becoming adolecents, experiencing puberty, navigating school, bullying, friendships, and mental health struggles for LGBTQ+ youth.

Transitioning and Gender Affirmation: Physical, social, and/or legal transitions for trans and non-binary individuals, and the potential emotional and psychological impacts of this process.

Mental Health: Mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, substance use, and suicidal ideation are exacerbated by homophobia, societal rejection and trauma.

Parenting & Reproduction: Supporting LGBTQ+ parents or wanting to be parents through the experiences of adoption, surrogacy, and co-parenting dynamics.

Body Image & Queer Identity: Addressing body image issues, dysmorphia and the impact of social media and ideas of "beauty" and gender expression.

Trauma and C-PTSD: Processing and naming the impacts of trauma, including being bullied, conversion therapy, or childhood experiences of being misunderstood.

Workplace Challenges: Navigating discrimination, coming out at work, being outed at work and creating inclusive environments and washrooms.

LGBTQ+ Identity and the Law: Processing legal rights and protections, including navigating legal gender acceptance in school, work and other public spaces.
