Are you struggling with stress and tension in family relationships? Are you finding it challenging to cope with the demands of parenting, co-parenting or single parenting?

Family therapy is an approach that focuses on the relationships within the family unit, acknowledging that the dynamics between each family members are important for emotional well-being. While individual family members can engage in their own counselling, family therapy works with the system as a whole, recognizing the interconnectedness of these relationships. There are many challenges for the modern family from parenting, changing families, monitoring devices and supporting children with neurodiversity.

At the heart of family systems therapy is the understanding that human connection is essential for meeting our basic emotional and psychological needs. Attachments formed within the family are foundational to how we develop, connect, regulate emotions, and navigate the world. Within any family system it is normal to experience tension, misunderstandings, and stress in communication. These issues can create patterns of behaviours and interactions that impact everyone in the family and influence both how individuals interact and how they perceive one another for both parents and children.

Family therapy provides a safe and intentional space where each family member can be engaged in understanding each other. By exploring the perspectives and experiences of each individual, family therapy helps to build empathy, group resilience and improve dynamics. This process can lead to a deeper understanding of one another and create a foundation for stronger, healthier connections within the family.

Through family therapy, families can work on improving both verbal and nonverbal communication patterns, helping to move unhelpful patterns. This can provide a landscape for more effective and kind communication, reduce conflict, and create a sense of belonging and safety.

Family therapy helps families navigate the complexities of attachment and relational dynamics, while working towards creating a more resilient and supportive environment for all members.

I am experienced with working with families of all ages, abilities and identities as an educator and registered clinical counsellor.
